NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Orders Immediate Release of Arrested PTI Lawmakers

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq addressed the recent arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders from the Parliament House, ordering the immediate release of the detained lawmakers.

Sadiq has directed the Islamabad Inspector General (IG) to free the PTI members arrested outside the lower house of parliament, emphasizing that disrespect towards assembly members will not be tolerated.

The Speaker has requested a report from the IG regarding the arrests, which occurred after PTI’s public rally on September 8.

On Monday, several PTI figures, including Chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen, were detained. Additionally, MNAs Zain Qureshi and Sheikh Waqas Akram were arrested from inside the Parliament House.

Sources indicate that Speaker Sadiq permitted the arrests outside the Parliament premises following police presentations of an FIR accusing the PTI leaders of violating public rally SOPs. Three cases have been registered under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill in Islamabad, involving 28 individuals, including prominent PTI figures such as Zartaj Gul and Raja Basharat.

Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister safely returned to KP CM House after being absent for several hours following the police crackdown on PTI leaders.
