SHC Halts Sindh Govt’s Purchase of 138 Double-Cabin Vehicles for ACs
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday suspended the provincial government’s decision to purchase 138 double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners (ACs), following a petition filed by Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Muhammad Farooq.
The petition argued that the purchase of these SUVs was unnecessary and a misuse of public funds, particularly in the context of Pakistan’s ongoing economic challenges.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court temporarily halted the implementation of the government’s notification regarding the vehicle purchase.
It has directed the provincial government, along with the chief secretary, finance secretary, and the board of revenue, to submit their responses within four weeks.
The petition highlighted that Rs 2 billion had been allocated for the vehicles, and MPA Farooq urged that these funds should instead be directed toward welfare projects for the public.
