Court Martial Proceedings Against Gen Faiz Hameed Initiated After “Concrete Evidence”: DG ISPR
RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army has initiated court martial proceedings against former spymaster Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed following a detailed investigation that revealed violations of the Army Act, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday.
During a press briefing in Rawalpindi, ISPR Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized that the Pakistan Army operates without any political agenda and upholds a strict system of self-accountability.
Lt Gen Chaudhry explained that after Gen Faiz’s retirement, multiple violations of the Army Act came to light, leading to the launch of a comprehensive probe. “Following a detailed inquiry based on concrete evidence, the Pakistan Army clearly stated on August 12, 2024, that the relevant officer had breached sections of the Army Act,” said Lt Gen Chaudhry.
The spokesperson highlighted that the army’s internal accountability mechanism is robust, transparent, and based on solid evidence rather than mere allegations. “Whenever laws and regulations are violated within the army, the self-accountability system is triggered swiftly and without discrimination,” he asserted.
The court martial was initiated following a court of inquiry ordered by the army in April, after an application related to the Top City case was referred to the military by the Ministry of Defence. The army’s investigation found sufficient grounds to proceed against the former intelligence chief.
This was the first media briefing since a wave of terror attacks struck Balochistan on August 26.
