Government and Opposition Reach Out to BNP Chief Akhtar Mengal to Rejoin Parliament

Both government and opposition delegations reached out to Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, urging him to reconsider his resignation and return to Parliament.

A delegation from the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with Mengal to discuss the possibility of collaborating on parliamentary matters. The PTI representatives encouraged Mengal to withdraw his resignation to join forces in their legislative efforts. “Take back your resignation to initiate a joint struggle,” the PTI team urged Mengal, according to sources.

However, Mengal expressed skepticism about the feasibility of returning, citing the serious conditions in Balochistan. “The time for dialogue has now passed,” Mengal stated, indicating frustration with the lack of attention to Balochistan’s issues. “No one wants to understand the genuine problems of Balochistan,” he added.

In a parallel effort, a delegation from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by Rana Sanaullah, also approached Mengal with hopes of persuading him to retract his resignation. “His decision to resign from Parliament was surprising to us. As a senior politician with significant influence in Balochistan, we will continue discussions to convince him to reconsider,” a PML-N leader remarked.

Mengal’s resignation has created a complex political situation, with both sides keen on leveraging his political influence and addressing the pressing issues in Balochistan.
