Verdict Reserved on Bushra Bibi’s Acquittal Plea in £190 Million Settlement Case
An accountability court has reserved its verdict on Bushra Bibi’s plea for acquittal in the £190 million settlement case involving her and her husband, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The decision is expected to be announced tomorrow (Thursday).
The former premier and his wife face allegations of causing significant financial loss to the national exchequer, with the case also implicating a prominent property tycoon.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the couple was presented in a makeshift courtroom at Adiala Jail due to security concerns.
However, the cross-examination of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) investigation officer did not occur because Imran Khan’s lawyer was absent.
Bushra Bibi’s legal representative, Usman Riaz Gul, presented arguments supporting her acquittal plea, while the anti-corruption watchdog opposed it.
Additionally, the judge dismissed a request to initiate contempt proceedings against the NAB chairman, deeming it ineffective based on the arguments presented by both the prosecution and the defense.
