Rana Sanaullah Claims CJP Qazi Faez Isa Declines Extension Offer
Advisor to the Prime Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Rana Sanaullah, revealed on Monday that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa has declined an extension of his service tenure.
Speaking exclusively to ARY News, Sanaullah stated, “We do not have the necessary numbers in Parliament to grant the Chief Justice an extension or to pass a constitutional amendment. If we had the numbers, it would have been pursued, as amending the Constitution is the prerogative of Parliament.”
Sanaullah further explained that CJP Isa had made it clear to the Law Minister and Attorney General that he would not accept an extension. However, he expressed that extending the age limit universally would be acceptable.
On the political front, Rana Sanaullah clarified that while the government cooperates with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, they are not aligned with him politically.
Addressing allegations against Lt. General (retired) Faiz Hameed, Sanaullah stated that Hameed has been accused of influencing the appointment of the Army Chief and securing desired postings through his connections with PTI. He suggested that if these allegations are proven, Hameed could not have acted alone, implying potential involvement of PTI’s founder. Sanaullah hinted that communications between the two may surface post-retirement, potentially revealing details about their collaboration on events like those of May 9th.
In response to a question during the interview, Rana Sanaullah also mentioned that former COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa never requested an extension in his presence, and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif never indicated that Bajwa had sought one. He further denied rumors of a meeting between former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Qamar Javed Bajwa’s father-in-law, Ijaz Amjad, in London.
