Two Policemen Injured in Terrorist Attack on Mianwali Police Check Post
At least two policemen were injured when a group of over a dozen terrorists attacked the Qabool Khel police check post in Punjab’s Mianwali on Monday. According to a police spokesperson, the assailants, numbering between 12 and 14, launched their attack using rockets and hand grenades.
Despite the intensity of the assault, Punjab Police successfully repelled the attackers, forcing them to flee. Following the incident, the District Police Officer of Mianwali and Deputy Superintendent of Police Isa Khel arrived at the scene with additional personnel.
This attack comes just weeks after a tragic incident in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan, where 12 policemen were martyred and six others injured in a rocket attack by bandits in the riverine area of Machka. Pakistan has seen a significant rise in militant attacks since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, with violence spilling over into various regions, including Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities in Islamabad have accused Afghanistan’s new rulers of failing to address militant groups operating from within their borders, who continue to launch attacks on Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, Balochistan alone witnessed 170 militant attacks last year, resulting in the deaths of 151 civilians and 114 security personnel.
