Cyclone Asna to Weaken at Sea, But Rough Conditions Expected Near Sindh Coast

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an alert on Saturday, informing the public that Cyclone Asna, now moving away from Sindh’s coastal belt, is positioned approximately 185 kilometers from Karachi, 210 kilometers from Ormara, and 370 kilometers from Gwadar.

According to the alert, the cyclone is expected to continue tracking west-southwestwards towards the coastal areas of Balochistan and then move towards Oman. However, the storm is likely to weaken and dissipate over the sea, with no threat of making landfall on any coast, as confirmed by the Meteorological Office.

Despite the reduced threat, the meteorological department has warned that sea conditions will remain rough, with winds expected to reach speeds of 60 to 70 km/h in Karachi. The NDMA has advised fishermen in Sindh to avoid venturing into the sea today, while those in Balochistan are cautioned against going into deep waters until tomorrow.

The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) also warned Karachi residents of potential coastal flooding along Sindh’s coast. There is also a risk of pluvial flooding or inundation in low-lying areas of the province.

Earlier forecasts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicated the possibility of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and intermittent thundershowers in Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, and other districts of Sindh by this evening or night.
