WhatsApp to Introduce Username Feature, Enhancing User Privacy by Hiding Phone Numbers
WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is set to roll out a new feature that will enable users to chat without revealing their phone numbers.
This privacy-focused update aims to enhance the overall messaging experience by allowing users to communicate solely through their usernames, similar to features already implemented by platforms like Telegram.
The new feature, currently in the testing phase with the release of the WhatsApp Beta version 2.24.18.2 for Android, will allow users to create a unique identifier linked to their WhatsApp account. Once fully implemented, users will be able to share their usernames to initiate conversations, eliminating the need to exchange phone numbers.
This development marks a significant step forward in user privacy for WhatsApp, as it offers an additional layer of protection by keeping personal phone numbers private during chats.
