NASA Astronaut Captures Breathtaking Image of Moon Setting Over Pacific Ocean from Space
NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick recently captivated social media with a stunning image of the moon descending over the Pacific Ocean, captured from an extraordinary vantage point aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
Dominick, who has been stationed on the ISS for the past four months, shared the mesmerizing photo via NASA’s Instagram account. The image shows the moon setting against a backdrop of blue hues from Earth’s atmosphere and clouds, offering a rare and beautiful perspective from space.
In the caption, Dominick explained the context behind the photo: “The moon setting over the Pacific. Went to the cupola to shoot Tropical Storm Hone near Hawaii but right after we passed by the storm the moon started to set.”
The photo quickly went viral, drawing admiration from viewers worldwide. Dominick also provided technical details of the shot, revealing it was taken with a 400mm lens, ISO 500, 1/20000s shutter speed, f2.8, and later cropped and denoised.
The image sparked awe among netizens, with one user commenting, “And to think it still takes nearly 3 days to arrive at the moon. The vastness of space is so humbling and so beautiful.”
This breathtaking image follows another remarkable photograph of a moonrise, also captured by Dominick from a unique vantage point within the ISS, and shared by NASA just days earlier.
