Murder Case Filed Against Bangladeshi Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan in Dhaka

DHAKA: A murder case has been filed against Bangladeshi cricketer and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan in Dhaka, according to reports from Bangladeshi media. The case, involving the death of a garment factory worker, was lodged by the victim’s father at a Dhaka police station on Thursday.

Shakib, currently in Pakistan with the national cricket team for a Test series, is charged alongside former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was also named in the case. The 37-year-old cricketer had been a member of the now-dissolved Bangladesh parliament, previously led by Hasina.

Sheikh Hasina was forced to flee Bangladesh earlier this month following widespread protests, leading to the establishment of an interim government. Despite the political turmoil, Shakib was granted permission last week by the interim authorities to participate in the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, with the first match having begun on Wednesday.

Shakib has yet to make any public comment regarding the murder charge or the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh.
