12 Policemen Martyred, Seven Injured in Rocket Attack by Bandits in Rahim Yar Khan
Rahim Yar Khan, August 23, 2024 — In a tragic incident, at least 12 police officers were martyred, and seven others were injured when bandits launched a rocket attack on two police vehicles in the katcha area of Rahim Yar Khan’s Machka, Sadiqabad.
The attack occurred as the police vehicles became stuck in rainwater, making them vulnerable to the assailants. Approximately 20 officers were present in the vehicles at the time of the ambush.
Following the attack, police forces and rescue teams from across the district were swiftly dispatched to the scene, and an emergency was declared throughout the district.
Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, along with Additional IG Special Branch, IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and other senior officials, promptly arrived in Rahim Yar Khan to oversee the situation.
IG Punjab confirmed that the police vehicles were struck by rocket launchers, resulting in the loss of 12 officers’ lives. The injured officers were transported to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where the condition of two is reported to be critical.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The tragic loss of life has sent shockwaves through the community, with law enforcement agencies on high alert.
