Karachi Court Sends Woman Accused in Karsaz Road Accident to Judicial Remand

A Karachi East court on Wednesday ordered the judicial remand of Natasha, the woman accused of causing a fatal road accident on Karsaz Road, which resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to five others.

The judicial magistrate remanded Natasha into custody following an order to present her before the court, along with a medical report. The move came after an investigation officer (IO) sought a seven-day physical remand, citing that Section 322, under which she is charged, is a non-bailable offense.

Natasha allegedly rammed her car into multiple vehicles on Monday, leading to the tragic deaths of 26-year-old Aamna Arif and her 60-year-old father, Imran Arif. The court had initially granted a one-day physical remand of the suspect, a resident of Karachi’s KDA Scheme-I area.

Following the accident, police and Rangers apprehended Natasha and brought her to the police station, where her jeep was impounded. She was subsequently taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a medical check-up after sustaining a head injury.

A case was lodged by Imtiaz Arif, the brother of the deceased, who accused Natasha of “negligence, freewheeling, and speeding,” leading to the deaths of his brother and niece. Police have stated that since Natasha possessed a valid driving license, charges of culpable homicide would be applied to her case, in addition to charges of negligence and rash driving included in the FIR.
