19 Dead, Including Nine Children, as Monsoon Rains Devastate Balochistan
QUETTA – At least 19 people, including nine children, have lost their lives in Balochistan due to severe monsoon rains, according to a report from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), as cited by ARY News on Tuesday.
The PDMA reported that 11 others, including 10 children, were injured as a result of the devastating rainfall that began on July 1. The torrential rains have caused widespread destruction across the province, severely impacting infrastructure and agriculture.
The report highlights that 126 houses have been completely destroyed, with an additional 433 partially damaged. The heavy rains have also ravaged crops, with 97 acres of farmland ruined. Furthermore, 31 kilometers of roads and a health unit have been affected by the flooding.
The flash floods triggered by the heavy rains have left 3,031 people homeless, while six bridges across various districts have been partially damaged. Additionally, 131 animals have perished due to thunderbolts amid the intense downpours.
As Balochistan grapples with the aftermath of the monsoon, authorities are working to provide relief and assess the full extent of the damage.
