Nawaz Sharif Announces Major Relief for Punjab Electricity Consumers, Focus on Low-Income Households
LAHORE – Former Prime Minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a significant relief package for electricity consumers in Punjab, with a particular emphasis on assisting low-income households, ARY News reported.
During a press conference, Sharif announced that electricity consumers using up to 500 units will receive a reduction of Rs 14 per unit. This relief is part of a broader effort to ease the financial burden on the public.
Sharif also commended Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her role in facilitating this relief initiative. He further revealed plans for a solar panel scheme spearheaded by Maryam Nawaz, which aims to provide additional support to consumers by reducing future electricity bills.
The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 700 billion for the solar panel scheme, which is expected to significantly lower electricity costs in the long term. The immediate relief of Rs 14 per unit for consumers using up to 500 units will incur a cost of Rs 45 billion to the provincial government.
