Heavy Rainfall Causes Highway Damage and Flooding Risks Across Pakistan
As the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall for the coming week, a section of the highway linking Quetta with Islamabad was washed away near Dhanasar due to torrential rains in Zhob and Sherani districts.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of potential flash floods and urban flooding across various parts of the country. Heavy rainfall could lead to elevated water levels in local nullahs and urban areas.
Met Office Director General Mehar Sahibzada Khan confirmed that the rain spell is expected to continue until July 21. He urged the public to take precautionary measures to prevent accidents and disruptions during this period.
Khan also noted that all four provinces, along with Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), will experience the rainfall. He cautioned that landslides could disrupt roads in the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
