FBI Identifies Suspect in Attempted Assassination of Former President Trump

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the suspect in Saturday’s attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally.

The Secret Service shot and killed Crooks seconds after he allegedly fired shots toward a stage where Trump was speaking in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The FBI is currently working to determine the motive for the attack, which resulted in the death of one rally attendee and critically injured two other spectators. Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the ear.

On Sunday, the Federal Aviation Administration closed the airspace over Bethel Park for “special security reasons.” Crooks resided about an hour from the shooting location in Butler.

State voter records indicate that Crooks was a registered Republican. The upcoming November 5 election would have been his first opportunity to vote in a presidential race.

Law enforcement officials revealed that Crooks carried no identification at the scene of the shooting, necessitating identification through other methods.

“We’re looking at photographs right now and we’re trying to run his DNA and get biometric confirmation,” said Kevin Rojek, FBI special agent in charge, during a press briefing.
